Maysville Young Professionals Network Announces “4 Under 40” Honorees
The Maysville Young Professionals Network is thrilled to announce the nominees and honorees for the inaugural “Maysville Area’s 4 Under 40” program. The announcement reception, held at the historic Cox Building and hosted by the Maysville Area Chamber of Commerce and Visit Maysville, was an overwhelming success, celebrating the outstanding achievements of young professionals in Maysville and Mason County.
The evening honored an impressive list of nominees:
Madison Hord: Founder of Cafe Cream, making significant community contributions through her business.
Cameron O’Hearn: Dedicated firefighter and EMT, small business owner of O’Hearn Lawn & Landscape and Putt 4 Fun.
Claire Estill McHugh: Distinguished lawyer and community leader involved in numerous boards and initiatives.
William Lawrence: State Representative and business owner, revitalizing downtown properties and serving the community.
John Pogue: Influential in the bourbon industry, boosting local tourism and establishing the Old Pogue Experience.
Daniel (Clay) Graves: Local weather expert providing customized forecasts and ensuring community safety.
Ellen Cartmell: Public health advocate and key player in local civic and non-profit initiatives.
Khrysten Childers: Exceptional special education teacher and community leader.
Shaina Theis: Licensed clinical social worker and founder of Maysville Mammas support group.
Tina McNeill: Cheer and gymnastics coach at Limestone YMCA, involved in numerous community volunteer activities.
Trey Crump: Police officer dedicated to community service and involvement in local events.
Julia Swolsky: Reliability Engineer at the Maysville Mill and community coach.
Kendrick Applegate: Inspiring teacher and community leader, dedicated to both education and local events.
Sarah Bettinger: Dedicated healthcare provider and community leader, former president of the Maysville Younger Woman’s Club.
The highlight of the event was the announcement of the Top 4 Under 40 honorees:
Ellen Cartmell, a graduate of Centre College and Chatham Hall preparatory school, began her impactful career as a language interpreter at GE and later became a public health policy advocate at the Buffalo Trace District Health Department. Now, as the Tobacco Prevention & Cessation Program Manager at the Kentucky Department for Public Health, Ellen has significantly contributed to numerous civic and non-profit initiatives. She played a key role in developing the Maysville Young Professionals Network and serves on various boards, including the Mason County Public Library and the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross. Her leadership and advocacy work have greatly enhanced public health and community well-being in Maysville and Mason County. Ellen’s dedication as an organizer, advocate, and leader has had a tremendous positive impact, making her a true asset to our community.
Claire Estill McHugh, a magna cum laude graduate of NKU Salmon P. Chase College of Law and cum laude from the University of Dayton, has demonstrated exceptional dedication to both education and law. Selected from 45,000 applicants for Teach for America, she began her career serving low-income public schools before transitioning to law. Claire’s extensive community involvement includes chairing the Maysville Community & Technical Nominating Commission and serving on multiple boards such as the Boys and Girls Club. Her professional work in both public criminal prosecution and private civil law at Fox Wood Wood and Estill, along with her passion for mentoring and community service, highlights her commitment to making Maysville and Mason County a better place. Her numerous awards, including the Ion Center Icon Award, further reflect her significant contributions to the community.
William Lawrence, currently serving his second term as State Representative since being elected in 2021, has made significant contributions to both the community and the economy of Mason County. As the owner of Dooty Calls and Lawrence Development, he has revitalized historic downtown buildings and provided affordable housing. Beyond his professional endeavors, William is a devoted father and active church member, generously volunteering his time to local charities and church projects. His leadership and dedication to public service have had a lasting positive impact on the community he represents.
John Pogue, who has significantly contributed to the expansion of tourism in Maysville and Mason County through his expertise in distilling and legislative influence. He played a crucial role in passing legislation for Limited Self Distribution for Kentucky Craft Distillers and establishing Class B Entertainment Districts, enhancing local tourism. Additionally, John was instrumental in designing the Old Pogue Experience with the Kentucky Gateway Museum. His efforts in reestablishing the area as the “birthplace of bourbon” have attracted tourists nationwide, greatly boosting the local economy and promoting Maysville and Mason County tirelessly.
Funds raised from the nomination fees, matched by the Maysville Area Chamber of Commerce and Visit Maysville, will be awarded to the Top 4 honorees to support a community service project of their choice. This project will reflect the honorees’ passions and address vital needs in our area, while bringing the class of nominees together again for a bigger cause. Anyone interested in joining the Maysville Young Professionals Network is invited to participate in the project.
